January-March Showers = ???

By jeff

It rained buckets today.  In fact, it rained all day long.  Rain is a mixed blessing/curse in this part of the world and I find myself full of mixed emotions on days like today.  It’s a curse because there are lots of people who live in this area in houses made out of scrap wood or cardboard, roofs made out of a tarp (that always leaks), dirt floors, and lots of mud to trek through on their way to the outhouse.  My feet were wet in church this morning from the walk across the campus and that bothered me – until I thought of those people who have nothing to change into when their clothing gets muddy and wet.  God forgive me.

However, the rain is also a great blessing because EVERYTHING turns green.  Where there was ugly, parched, brown dirt for the past nine months, God brings grass and wild flowers and a multitude of other plants.  Who knew that those seeds were waiting in there all year for a little rain?!  You know the old phrase, “Mexican winter showers bring March flowers” (or something like that).  Pretty soon, this is what it will look like:

It’s the most wonderful and the most difficult time of the year.
