The City of Children Tour
While traveling home for Thanksgiving last week, we decided to make the most of our time by promoting the City of Children as much as possible. We quickly realized that we could have stayed another two weeks with all of the requests we had to come and speak. So we are working on a similar trip in the early part of 2010 (before spring break begins) to try and accommodate those people and churches we were unable to visit on this trip.
On this trip we were able to speak to several groups and individuals. Our first meeting took place 6 hours after we arrived in Atlanta (keep in mind that we landed at approximately 1am) with the president of Greater Atlanta Christian School. We then toured the school’s Learning Center and met with its executive director, spoke in chapel, went to lunch with Melaney Cost and several friends of the City of Children, and spoke in a couple of Bible classes.
The next day we were able to visit with Danny Sorrell and his wife Tammie who were visiting Atlanta at a youth ministry conference. Danny is one of our board members and Tammie just happens to be one of our favorite people in the world. It was great getting to have lunch and hang out with them.
On Sunday morning we spoke to the teen class at Campus Church of Christ. They will be coming to Mexico for the first time this summer.

We then spoke to the entire congregation about the City of Children. There were approximately 800 in attendance.
On Tuesday we got up early and drove to Chattanooga to spend some time at the Boyd-Buchanan school. They have been visiting the City of Children for 10 years on their fall break. We spoke in their high school chapel service and were able to visit with some of the students who came to the home in September. It was great to see them!

We took a few days off for Thanksgiving before speaking to two groups in Nashville. We met with the Lipscomb University City of Children mission team who is busy planning their trip in March. Among the all-star’s on their team is our own Andres Gonzalez!

On the day we flew back to San Diego, we were able to squeeze in another chapel talk, this time to all of the high school students at Nashville Christian School. They are planning an extra-long weekend trip in April.
All in all, we had a great tour around the Southeast. We are always open to coming and speaking at your church or school about what God is doing in Baja. If you would like to learn more or schedule a visit, please send an e-mail to info@cityofchildren.com.
