Sunrise Serenade

By natasha

One week ago, after our lab woke us at 4:00 a.m., I could not get back to sleep.  So I crept into the living room, stretched out on the couch, and watched my favorite amateur video a couple of times.  Then, I was awake enough to accomplish some small chores around the house  in the hour or [...]

Home for the Holidays

By jeff

We are currently at home in Tennessee spending time with family for Thanksgiving. The temperature is in the 30’s, the leaves are multicolored and falling off the trees, we are able to participate in any and every conversation because they are in English, we can drink the water (and there is plenty of it), [...]

Baja 1000

By jeff

Last weekend the annual Baja 1000 roared into Ensenada. This race is considered the “granddaddy of all desert and off-road races” and has taken place here for the last 41 years. There were approximately 350 different vehicles entered in the race including motorcycles, atv’s, trucks, volkswagen bugs, etc. The trucks were the [...]

Another reason to love Sundays

By natasha

We mentioned before that Sundays are sweet family days here at the home.  After church, everyone eats lunch together, and spends the afternoon playing and visiting with friends and family.  This past Sunday I was introduced to yet another Sunday blessing: gift and card distribution.  Each week, Stan and Carol receive a few cards, letters, [...]

Birthday Extravaganza

By jeff

Sorry we haven’t posted in a while – we’ve had a busy week! Not only was it Natasha’s birthday on Wednesday but Natasha’s mom and dad came to visit. They are our first official visitors visit since we moved here last July. So the adventure began.
We had planned out what our time with them here [...]

Last Day of School!!

By jeff

So last Friday we celebrated our last day of 10 weeks in Spanish language school. It was a great day. Our favorite cook in Ensenada, who also happens to be a great Spanish teacher, made Natasha a cake for her birthday (which is this Wednesday) and Mexican hot chocolate.

Here we are in class with Bibiana, [...]

Pick-up Game of America’s Favorite Pasttime

By natasha

Wednesday after returning from language school, Webster and I went over to see the mediano boys.  There were only about twelve medianos outside, and all but two of them were playing baseball.    The two spectators had draped themselves over the see-saw and slide, unconsciously kicking at the dirt as they enjoyed the show.  When the boys saw Webs and I walk up [...]

Photos from the Weekend

By jeff

We thought you would like to see some pictures from Day of the Dead and Halloween here in Mexico.
Here is how Ricardo, Andres, and Esteban dressed for a birthday / Halloween party:

Sunday afternoon we went to the largest cemetery in town to check out the celebration (I know, that sounds strange). When we got there, [...]

Happy Dia de los Muertos

By natasha

Today is the Mexican Catholic holiday called “Day of the Dead”.  Sounds a little scary, but it’s actually not at all.  It is a day set aside for families and friends to honor loved ones who have passed away.  Families prepare their deceased relatives favorite foods, set up a special area within their home of photos [...]

Empenada’s!

By jeff

From roasting the Serrano Chili’s over an open flame…

…to making and rolling out the two types of dough (both corn and flour)…

…we feasted on 3 different types of hand made Empenadas at school this week. There was a vegetable and cheese (which included corn and serrano chili), refried bean with chorizo sausage – cheese [...]
